Why such specific shoes?
Are Vans Ok?
What about Converse?
Are there Jazz shoes with shoelaces?
A quick note about this year's shoe needs for costuming.
Jazz shoes, ballet shoes/flats, and/or character shoes are needed this year for several reasons.
Frozen takes place in Arendelle in the 1800s and aesthetically these shoes match the look of the era and we need to be as uniform as possible for stylistically clean purposes (hence black, white, and/or tan for different characters) but more importantly, these types of shoes are needed as the soles of each of these type of dance shoes are made for stage floors.
Regular street shoes tear up the paint on the stage and on our set blocks. Also, the treads on most street shoes tend to stop actors and performers from turning freely on stage and on the carpet which can lead to knee and ankle injuries. Dance shoes allow for performers to turn and move, safely, freely and easily.
The Jazz shoes for this show's purposes can be slip-on style or the shoelace style.
Both are shown in the images above.
Thanks for your understanding!
